Weekend Immersions List

Structural Yoga Therapy Certification (90 Hours)

If you currently have your 200 Hour RYT, you are eligible to earn a Specialty Certification in Structural Yoga Therapy. This certificate program creates the opportunity for you to get a concentrated education in one area, and immediately implement what you learn into the appropriate setting. This certificate qualifies you to work with persons who suffer from musculo skeletal issues such as low back pain, athletic injuries, post rehab from musculo skeletal injuries and more! To obtain this 90 hour certification, you must complete the following immersions. You will also earn ACE CEU's (American Council for Exercise) for attendance at some of these immersions. If you are not 200 RYT, you are welcome to attend any of the immersions and earn ACE CEU's, but must be an RYT to receive the 90 Hour Certification.

  1. Structural Anatomy of Yoga ~ Through this immersion, you will gain understanding of the anatomy and kinesiology of yoga asana and breathing. Practice and apply techniques to develop individualized alignments and adjustments for yourself and your students. Learn therapeutic applications for Yoga Postures. Please be sure to review the required reading book Yoga Anatomy by Leslie Kaminoff and the Key Muscles of Hatha Yoga prior to this weekend training and review the book in detail throughout training. (1.8 ACE CEU’s, 21.75 Yoga Alliance CEU’s)

  2. Structural Assessment and Yoga Therapy for the Spine and Lower Quarter ~ In this immersion, you will Learn the Asana Practice Screen as well as static and dynamic assessment of the spine and lower quarter. 3. Structural Assessment and Yoga Therapy for the Upper Quarter ~ Learn Postural assessment techniques as well as static and dynamic assessment of kinesiology of the Upper Body. Explore how to integrate asanas in a therapeutic practice to create healing and balance (1.8 CEU’s, 21.75 Yoga Alliance CEU’s)

  4. Complete one of 3 options below

    1) Yoga for Athletes: Refine Strength, Power and Flexibility for Performance Learn how to identify common inefficient movement patterns in athletes, how to use the tools of yoga to optimize performance in the athlete through: Controlled Flexibility, Meditation, Breath work, Refined Strength and Power, and Balancing the Emotional Motor System to incorporate myofascial release and PNF techniques. The above immersions do not have to be taken in sequential order, however if you have a limited background in anatomy and kinesiology, we HIGHLY recommend you begin with Structural Anatomy of Yoga or do an intensive pre immersion review of this subject area prior to attending. (1.8 ACE CEU’s, 21.75 Yoga Alliance CEU’s)

    2) Practical Applications of Yoga Therapy Techniques: In this immersion, you will work collaboratively with the instructor, a yoga therapist, to design treatment plans and implement therapeutic yoga techniques for case studies and live clients. This is an opportunity to apply and integrate all you learned in the previous immersions. This can only be taken AFTER you have completed the first 3 immersions. We plan to offer this opportunity one time per quarter. (18 Yoga Alliance CEU’s)

    3) Participate as a Yoga Therapy Assistant in 2 Yoga Therapy Group Programs. Assist/Participate in Group Yoga Therapy Series Each quarter Yoga Club will offer a 4 week Yoga Therapy series for a special population (ie low back pain, musculo skeletal disorders) You will receive credit hours for assisting at the sessions. This includes doing intake interviews with prospective clients, designing individualized programs and assisting during the sessions. You must complete two 4 week series programs prior to receiving your Structural Yoga Therapy Certificate.

The above immersions do not have to be taken in sequential order, however if you have a limited background in anatomy and kinesiology, we HIGHLY recommend you begin with Structural Anatomy of Yoga, do an intensive pre immersion review of this subject area prior to attending, or review either the David Keil or Paul Grilley DVD's listed on the homework page under Anatomy of Yoga.
